Strong growth at Andfjord Salmon

The Norwegian fish farmer points to 30% faster growth, good FCR, and high survival as standing biomass reaches 650 tonnes in its flow-through facility

Published Modified

Landbased fish farmer Andfjord Salmon today reported continued strong biological performance at in two operational pools its Kvalnes flow-through facility on the island of Andøya in northern Norway.

Salmon in pool K0 have reached an average weight of just over 1 kilo per fish ahead of schedule, while pool K1 has entered a phase of accelerating growth with results exceeding expectations, the company said in a market update.

Total standing biomass at the facility has exceeded 650 tonnes, a record high for the company which is using two pools for the first time.

Pool K0 was stocked with 350,000 smolts with an average weight of 180 grams at the end of September and continues to deliver strong results, said chief executive Martin Rasmussen.

High survival and FCR

“The fish have reached 1 kilogram on average, almost 30% above Skretting’s growth table, with an accumulated survival rate of 99.74% and a feed conversion ratio (FCR) of 0.93. This confirms both the robustness of the biology and the efficiency of our flow-through system,” said Rasmussen.

The pool has a standing biomass of 354 tonnes.

K1 was stocked with 750,000 smolts with an average weight of 160 grams in November. Andfjord said growth momentum in pool has strengthened materially over recent weeks and is now a key driver of overall performance.

Status

POOL K0

  • Survival rate: 99.74%
  • Average weight: 1,007 grams
  • FCR: 0.93
  • Standing biomass: 354 tonnes

POOL K1

  • Survival rate: 99.68 %
  • Average weight: 400 grams
  • FCR: 0.85
  • Standing biomass: 296 tonnes

The average fish weight in K1 has passed 400 grams, with growth running approximately 25% above Skretting’s growth table for the full cycle, and 40-50% above the table during the past two weeks.

Accumulated survival rate in K1 stands at 99.68 %, with an FCR of 0.85, reflecting highly efficient feed utilisation. Standing biomass has reached 296 tonnes.

Warmer water

The company said water temperatures had remained relatively high throughout Q4 2025 and this month and are currently around 6°C, approximately 1°C higher than during the previous production cycle in K0 in 2022-2023, supporting strong growth conditions.

Andfjord Salmon is adding a further 11 pools to the two it already has, with pools K2-K4 in Phase 1 of construction, K5-K8 in Phase 2 A and K9-12 in Phase 2 B, and has recently changed contractors.

Andfjord Salmon stopped paying its previous contractor, AF Hæhre & Contur Ans (AFHC), in December and has lodged a NOK 1 billion claim against the company for alleged gross negligence and breach of contract.

AFHC disputes the claim and said it was its decision to terminate the contract because it had not been paid.

Logistics improvements

Andfjord said today that the new main contractor Entreprenør Harald Nilsen AS and concrete specialist Norne have through their site mobilisation at Kvalnes identified and implemented several site logistics improvements that will benefit the continued build-out.

It added that they are now well under way with the construction work and will shortly initiate installation of the prefabricated concrete wall sections that have already been produced for the next pools.
