Stage set for first RAStech conference and trade show in Europe

An inaugural conference and trade fair for land-based aquaculture takes place in Porto, Portugal, next week, aimed at the European recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) community.

Organised by RAStech magazine, the show is expected to attract experts from across the sector, from seafood producers and RAS designers to land-based aquaculture technology and product suppliers, said RAStech publisher Jeremy Thain on LinkedIn.

The conference is structured into two distinct sessions:

·       The Operation Track, which focuses on high-level R&D presentations, panel discussions, and project case studies. These sessions will showcase the diversity and growing potential of aquaculture in different European regions.

·       The Technology Track, designed for technical leads and engineers. This emphasises hands-on, interactive sessions from learning technical experts across the continent.

Keynote

Among the organisations represented are the Institute of Aquaculture (IoA) at the University of Stirling, SINTEF, and the Freshwater Institute, and leading aquaculture businesses including Pure Salmon Technology, the Kingfish Company, Salmon Evolution and AKVA Group.

The keynote talk on day one - Unlocking Europe’s potential for a diverse land-based aquaculture industry - will be delivered by Jacob Bregnballe, land-based sales director at AKVA Group with more than 30 years’ experience in aquaculture project development, farm design, management, and RAS technology.

Other speakers include Danish aquaculture entrepreneur Thue Holm; Stolt Sea Farms’ James Hall; Ohad Maiman, founder and former CEO of the Kingfish Company; RAS expert Ivar Warrer-Hansen; and the IoA’s Alastair McPhee, who will give an introduction to Stirling’s National Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Hub.

RAStech Europe will be held at the Hilton Porto Gaia from September 8-9.
