Otter Ferry owner Amar Seafood expands halibut capacity in Norway
Amar Seafood, which owns Scottish halibut farmer Otter Ferry Seafish, has entered into an agreement to acquire an aquaculture site at Tømmervåg, Norway from cod farmer Ode AS. The acquisition supports the company’s growth ambitions in Norway.
The site, which is currently unused, will be developed into a grow-out facility for halibut. Strategically located close to Amar Seafood’s existing operations in Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal, Tømmervåg will play a key role in scaling production and optimising the company’s overall value chain.
“Tømmervåg is a strong strategic fit for us. It adds both capacity and flexibility, and supports our ambition to grow halibut production in a structured and scalable way,” said Thomas Langhelle, chief operating officer landbased at Amar Seafood.
High-value species
Amar Seafood said halibut continues to gain momentum as a high-value species in aquaculture, and it has positioned itself to meet this demand through a fully integrated production model and a focused approach to biological performance and operational efficiency.
The company added that the Tømmervåg site offers solid infrastructure and significant development potential, enabling further expansion in line with the company’s long-term plans.
As part of the development, Amar Seafood will establish a local operational team and contribute to activity and employment in the region.
“To succeed at scale, we need the right locations combined with the right expertise. Tømmervåg gives us a strong platform for continued growth,” Langhelle said.
Amar Seafood will move forward with preparations at the site and is targeting start-up and first stocking this autumn.
