A new face in Pure Salmon Technology's commercial team
With solid experience from research, quality, sustainability and management, Synnøve Helland now takes over the role of commercial director.
“I know what it means to produce fish,” says Synnøve Helland, who will take up her new job on June 1.

"I have stood at the edge of the water, worked to improve animal welfare and seen the consequences when technology and biology do not play together," she adds in a press release.
"Developing solutions that actually make a difference, for both customers and fish, is something that really motivates me. I look forward to showcasing our strong professional communities that have extensive experience in designing, building and launching large and complex infrastructure projects, which land-based facilities have become today."
Wide-ranging role
In her new role, Helland will be responsible for sales, quotation work, marketing and communications.
The role requires insight into both technical solutions and market needs, something that Helland has developed a deep understanding of throughout her career, according to the press release.
"I look forward to contributing to the entire process together with our customers, from idea to finished solution. I am motivated by complex challenges, and know how crucial it is that technology works in everyday life. Not least, I am looking forward to getting even closer to the market and meeting talented people in the industry, both familiar and new faces," says Helland.
Deep knowledge
Helland has a PhD in fish physiology and over 25 years of experience in the aquaculture industry. She started her career as a researcher and has studied how the environment and nutrition affect fish welfare. As head of Nofima's research station at Sunndalsøra, she improved the interaction between technology and biology in fish farms.
In recent years, she has held key leadership roles within the Pure Salmon group, most recently as chief quality officer at Pure Salmon Technology. There, she had global responsibility for quality, sustainability, health and safety, document control and internal training, and has led the company towards three ISO certifications.
Drawn to the sea
Helland was raised in Sunnmøre, and the proximity to the sea has shaped both her life and career.
"I have always been fascinated by the sea. I still remember the first time I freedived and was surrounded by a shoal of saithe, and on the kelp I saw beautiful white and orange nudibranchs. From then on I knew I wanted to work with marine life," says Helland.
Chief executive Luke Kellgren-Parker is very pleased with the appointment.
"To meet the needs of the market, you have to understand the aquaculture industry. It was therefore an easy choice to give Synnøve this role. She has deep insight into the challenges associated with fish production, and a rare ability to translate knowledge into practical solutions that really lift the industry," says Kellgren-Parker.
