Land-based salmon farmer developer Arctic Seafarm has appointed Mona Bolin as its new chief operating officer (COO) to lead production and organisation at the company’s planned facility at Nesna in Helgeland, Nordland.

“I was at an industry conference in Bodø, and it was actually quite by chance that I heard about Arctic Seafarm. (Chief administrative officer) Carsten Rimer gave a presentation about the company, and I immediately recognised that this was serious, professional and of high quality. I saw that this was a completely new industry, and thought that this looked exciting,” said Bolin.

The new COO is a civil engineer with extensive experience in both heavy industry and green innovation. Arctic Seafarm writes that she is structured, solution-oriented and has her feet firmly planted both on the ground and in the industry.

The company believes that Bolin knows exactly what it takes to make an organisation function effectively without compromising quality, people, or fish welfare.

An unusual opportunity

“This is an unusual opportunity, with a completely new facility and a new industry. It’s not every day that something like this appears here in Helgeland,” said Bolin.

The facility at Nesna has a permit for 15,000 tonnes maximum allowed biomass, which according to the company means that it can produce up to 25,000 tonnes of salmon annually. In the first phase, the company plans to produce approximately 10,000 tonnes of salmon (8,000 tonnes gutted) and employ around 40 people. When the facility is fully developed, it will provide work for around 100 people at Nesna.

The first smolts will be stocked in 2026 and the fish farm is expected to be fully operational in 2027.

Arctic Seafarm announced its plans for the hybrid recirculation / flow-through facility in October last year. It is building the fish farm in partnership with its majority owner EMK Capital and in-sea salmon farmer Kvarøy Fiskeoppdrett AS.
