New commercial director for Nordic Aqua Partners
The landbased salmon farmer has appointed Morten Westby to the position at its recirculating aquaculture system facility in Ningbo, China
Westby will join the management team in Gaotang, Ningbo, and will be responsible for sales, business development, and marketing. He has been with Nordic Aqua since October 2024, where he has led business development and strategic partnerships.
The new commercial director has extensive experience from the seafood sector in Asia, and is familiar with both the Chinese seafood and consumer markets. His expertise and ability to speak fluent Mandarin will strengthen Nordic Aqua's position in the Chinese market for Atlantic salmon, the company writes in a press release.
Good biological performance
In the fourth quarter of 2025, Nordic Aqua Partners AS had a commercial harvest volume of 353 tonnes of head on gutted (HOG) salmon (HOG). The average harvest weight was 3.3 kilograms HOG, corresponding to 4.0 kilograms live weight, with a superior share of 93%.
For the whole of 2025, the total harvest volume ended at 2,026 tonnes HOG, with an average slaughter weight of 3.9 kg HOG (4.7 kg live weight) and a superior share of 97%.
Production in the fourth quarter was 1,350 tonnes, increasing total biomass to 3,759 tonnes at the end of the year. Total production in 2025 was 3,981 tonnes.
According to the company, biological development remains good, with healthy fish, high survival, and no signs of sexual maturation. This has been a key focus in the scale-up of the RAS facility in Ningbo.
In October 2025, the transfer of fish to the first growth section in construction phase two began. The transfers continued throughout the rest of the quarter and will continue into the first quarter of 2026.
The first harvest from phase 2 is expected in September 2026. This will mark an important step in further scaling up production in China.
Further development
The operational development is taking place at the same time as the company has recently secured billion-dollar financing for further development. As LandbasedAQ has previously reported, two Chinese state-owned companies have entered the ownership, while long-term bank financing in China is in place.
The financing will, among other things, support further development of the facility in Ningbo, where production capacity is planned to be increased from around 8,000 tonnes to 20,000 tonnes HOG annually by 2029. Detailed engineering of the next construction phase is planned to be completed in 2026, with the aim of an investment decision towards the end of the year or early in 2027.
