More than 14,000 salmon died at Gigante Salmon's land-based flow-through facility in Rødøy municipality in Norway after an incident earlier in April.

According to a notice that Avisa Nordland has seen, salmon deaths were discovered on April 1 at the facility on Lille Indre Rosøy.

According to the newspaper, the triggering cause was human error.

The incident was over within 24 hours, but during that period, 14,062 salmon died. There were about 2.2 million fish in the cage when the incident occurred, and around 3,000 fish were also weakened.

This is not the first time the facility has experienced problems. Last Christmas, a power outage caused widespread losses, with 32,357 fish dying over a three-week period. In addition, around 25,000 fish were weakened as a result of the incident.
