Korean company chooses Norwegian water treatment for 10,000-tonne salmon farm
Normex has secured its first major contract in Asia through a supply agreement for Mirae Aqua Farm's land-based aquaculture facility.
Norwegian technology company Normex has entered into a supply agreement with Mirae Aqua Farm, a land-based salmon farming facility in Pohang on the east coast of South Korea, Normex said in a press release.
The agreement represents a breakthrough for Normex in the Asian market, and marks the company's first major venture in the region.
The agreement includes the delivery and installation of the Razone water treatment system throughout the facility. When completed, the farm will have capacity for an annual production of 10,000 tonnes of salmon.
"This is a strategic milestone for us. It confirms the international relevance of our technology," said Normex chief executive Stig Ove Johansen
In addition to the main delivery, Normex will also deliver solutions for wastewater, intake water, and pre-slaughter cleaning.

Water clarity
Razone is a water treatment system developed specifically for RAS-based aquaculture facilities. The system removes microparticles, reduces microbiological load and ensures continuous water clarity – facilitating stable production conditions, good fish health and efficient utilisation of biomass with reduced risk.
“The market is demanding solutions that combine sustainability, biosecurity and operational efficiency. Razone meets these requirements directly. In addition, the system can be monitored remotely, which gives us a solid platform for further international growth,” said Johansen.
Suhyung Cho, chief executive of Mirae Aqua Farm, said: "We have spent a lot of time finding the right partners, and look forward to working with Normex on this ambitious project."
Targeted marketing

The order from South Korea is a direct result of Normex's participation in Innovation Norway's Global Growth programme – a targeted initiative that has given the company market insight and access to key decision-makers in the region.
As part of its long-term strategy, Normex has also entered into a partnership with the Korean company Aquapro Ltd, which will act as a local representative and technical support point.
"With Aquapro on the team, we are strengthening our presence in Southeast Asia. We have already initiated new projects together and see significant potential for further expansion in the region," concluded Johansen.
