Finnish aquaculture technology developer and equipment supplier Paras Aqua Oy has appointed Sondre Høidalen as the company’s new chief executive.

The company said Høidalen brings extensive international experience in the design and implementation of land-based aquaculture facilities, having previously served as CEO of three major industry players: VAQ, Billund Aquaculture Norway, and Krüger Kaldnes AS. In these roles, he led the development and construction of several large-scale and technically demanding recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), particularly in Norway.

“Paras Aqua’s approach includes many of the elements I have been looking for in this industry for a long time. Modularity and a high degree of prefabrication bring significant efficiency and predictability to projects,” said Høidalen.

Fast construction

He highlighted the exceptionally fast construction timelines and resource efficiency of Paras Aqua’s hybrid flow-through solutions.

“I have been genuinely surprised by how quickly these facilities can be built. At the same time, water consumption is very low, even though the system does not use bioreactors – this is a remarkable combination,” said Høidalen.

Paras Aqua Oy’s systems are based on a high level of prefabrication, which it says enables rapid deployment, consistent quality, and cost efficiency. The company says its technology offers an alternative to traditional RAS solutions, with a focus on simplicity, energy efficiency, and minimal water usage.

“Paras Aqua has a unique opportunity to significantly advance the industry,” said Høidalen. “By combining simpler technology with industrialised manufacturing, we can scale production in a way that has not been possible before.”
