Pure Salmon Technology nets new contract for smolt facility

Land-based fish farms maker Pure Salmon Technology has been chosen to supply the equipment for a new salmon smolt facility in Vestbygda, Nordland, Norway.

Pure Salmon Technology said that following multiple visits to its reference sites, smolt grower Lødingen Fisk gained a clear understanding of the company’s technological solutions and its ability to execute projects. It said the combination of solid previous deliveries and broad expertise across disciplines was key in choosing a partner.

The new facility will expand on existing production at the Vestbygda site.

Lødingen Fisk is part-owned by salmon farmers Eidsfjord Seafarm AS and Salaks Production AS. Eidsfjord Sea Farm and its production partner Holmøy Fish Farming jointly produce around 25,000 tonnes of salmon annually in farms around Nordland and Troms, and Salaks produces around 15,000 tonnes.

Different options

Pure Salmon Technology said the collaboration with Lødingen Fisk is focused on flexibility and the effective use of local resources such as power, water, and land to ensure that further growth can be accommodated in the future.

The smolt grower considered several options like flow-through, recirculation and reuse systems before deciding to partner up with Pure Salmon Technology.

“Their decision to choose us confirms their trust in our competence, technology, and ability to deliver tailored solutions. We look forward to supporting the project through all phases, from planning to completion, as well as providing operational support in the production phase,” said Preben Strand, key client director at Pure Salmon Technology.

15,000m³ volume

Production volume in the new facility is estimated to 15,000m³ and includes complete sections for fry, smolt, and post-smolt, and support systems to ensure efficient operations.

It will be the second facility Pure Salmon Technology delivers for the ownership group behind Lødingen Fisk.

“We greatly appreciate the trust placed in us through this project. Lødingen Fisk has chosen us as their partner to realise this facility, and we hope this marks the start of a long-term partnership that creates lasting value for the region,” said Pure Salmon Technology sales manager Jack Tucker.

Pure Salmon Technology is owned by 8F Asset Management, which has a long-term aim to build a number of land-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) salmon farms worldwide, operated by its Pure Salmon company.
