Gigante Salmon harvested a higher volume than estimated

First harvest completed at Gigante

The company’s first harvest yielded a higher volume than previously estimated.

Gigante Salmon has completed the delivery of all fish from its first stocking and trial production. The result is a harvested volume of 694 tonnes HOG (head-on gutted), compared to the previously communicated estimate of around 650 tonnes HOG.

The harvested fish had an average weight of 3.8 kg (whole fish), with 91% classified as superior quality.

"It’s a milestone to have produced and delivered our first fish with good results. With a well-functioning farming facility and skilled employees, everything is in place for a solid production", said CEO Kjell Lorentsen in a stock exchange announcement.

Very Excited

The Gigante CEO previously told LandbasedAQ that they encountered no challenges during the harvest process.

"We tested all of this, but we were very excited since this was the first time we were doing it. But everything went as planned, and we will continue using the same principles going forward",  said Lorentsen during the Seafood Expo in Barcelona.

The facility’s development is now in its final phase, with 2 out of 3 production basins completed, on schedule for a planned scale-up to full capacity of 16,000 tonnes HOG annually by 2028. The company plans to release 2.2 million smolt in the third quarter of 2025.
